The NBA is a sport filled with large men, giants to some, so naturally, with the large stature of the men, we can assume they have shoe sizes to match. Understandably your average size 9s or 10s do not occupy those NBA lockers. So what is the average NBA shoe size?

The average shoe size of NBA players is close to a US size 15! Maybe this comes as no surprise considering most of these men are taller than 6 feet tall. But, of course, there are a few outliers, with some bigger than size 20 and one or two below a size ten even.

It isn’t surprising that these tall and strong men have such huge feet; they need balance and stability to be the sublime athletes they are. In the NBA, many of the athletes are taller than 6 feet, with shoe sizes varying between US 12 and 18. There are outliers, bringing the average to well over a US size 14 and just under size 15. It’s no surprise that the literal BIG names have shoe sizes of US 16,17, and 18, as they have the height and structure that help them to be the best.

This average is well above the average worldwide and is an impressive size that attests to the remarkable giants competing in the NBA. As many players with sizes above the average and very few under US size 12, it is not surprising that the NBA has such a high averaging shoe size.

There are a lot of big names that wear bigger shoe sizes than the average of just under a size 15. In the NBA, some big names with big feet are the likes of Kevin Durant and DeAndre Jorden with their US size 18 shoes,  Kevin Love with a size 19, and Karl-Anthony Towns with his size 20.

Since there are so many larger than the average, it’s not surprising that the average is just under a US size 15. Most NBA players have a size shoe between the US sizes 12 and 18, so for some of these athletes, a 14.5 is considered too much smaller than their shoe size; impressive!

Although Shaq started his career with a size 20 shoe, it grew to a great size 22. As Shaq is retired now, that gives Tacko the honor of currently wearing the largest size shoe in the NBA.

It is not common for an NBA player to have small feet; the smallest shoe size is a very good and standard US size 9.5. Earl boykins is the NBA holding the title of smallest feet currently in the NBA. As most NBA players have shoes between sizes 12 and 18, Mr. Boykin’s shoe size is tiny compared to his fellows. But, unsurprisingly, Boykin’s shoe size also correlates to his height of only 5 foot 4, even though he has the tiniest feet in the NBA at the moment.

Boykins is not the shortest professional NBA basketballer in history; that honor befalls Muggsy Bogues, who played in 1987. Bogues’s shoe size is not known; however, a pair of his worn and signed sneakers were said to be around a US size 8, making his the smallest feet in NBA history.

Does NBA Have Higher Average Shoe Size Than Other Sports?

No other sport can boast an average height of their players being more than 6 foot 6; therefore, we can simply conclude that no other sport can boast an average shoe size more significant than the NBA. The average shoe size is an impressive and understandable achievement.

The giant men playing competitive basketball, specifically in the NBA, have the huge feet to support them and their sportsmanship. On average, shoe sizes for men are around US 10.5, and this goes along with other sports having slightly bigger sizes but not matching up to the giants in the NPA.

Has The Average Shoe Size In The NBA Changed Over The Years?

Looking at the basketballer’s over time, we can see that the average weight of the players changes a bit. For example, in more recent years, the players in the NBA bulked up a bit more, so the average weight increased; this could’ve attributed to feet expanding as players trained and needed a firmer foundation.

Now, as basketball has become faster, it requires players to be leaner and have more agility. However, since the players are trying to stay lean, the size of the player’s feet will not necessarily be exerted more than if the child would bulk up. Across the ages, there have been outliers in the average, but it is usually around the US size 14 and 15.

It is safe to say the NBA is filled with enormous feet and shoes in competitive sports. The highest average shoe in any sport is much higher than the average shoe sizes worldwide. It is pretty impressive.
